Take the Stellenbosch half-day. Stellenbosch is roughly 50 km from Cape Town and about 45 minutes’ drive, which is the only reason a five-hour wine tour is possible at all — Franschhoek at 75 km simply does not fit. You get a cellar visit, tastings, a pairing and time in the town, and you keep half your day. It runs both morning and afternoon, and the itinerary order flips between the two: mornings do the town first, afternoons the vineyards.

Things worth knowing before you pay
Lunch is almost never included. Every tour here except the Four Estate lists it as an exclusion. Budget R250 to R400 and bring a card.
Age policies vary more than you would expect. The top-rated winelands tour and the Four Estate tour are strictly 18-plus with no children permitted at all. The Stellenbosch half-day does allow children, who come for the estates and the food rather than the tastings — under-18s cannot drink alcohol at licensed premises in South Africa.
Pickup is not always from your hotel. Some operators collect from your address, which is why their departure times are described as indicative. Others use fixed City Sightseeing stops in the city bowl, on Beach Road and in Camps Bay. Several confirm your exact time by WhatsApp the night before — check your messages.
