The operator markets it as a luxury small-group tour and runs it in a van rather than a coach; reviewers consistently describe a van-sized party. That is the main thing you are paying the premium for — four estates at a pace where you can actually talk to the person pouring.

It depends on the package tier you select. The operator sells two tiers, and on the classic package the estate tasting fees are payable directly at the wineries. Lunch is at your own cost in Stellenbosch or Franschhoek, but the operator allows up to R380 per person — roughly $22 — at the chosen restaurant. At $77 against about $56 for a coach seat, you are paying roughly $20 for a fourth estate and considerably less queuing. If you care about talking to the estate rather than being processed through it, that is good value. If you mostly want to see three regions cheaply, the coach tour does that well.
