About This Experience

This is the day that answers the question most first-time visitors are really asking: which part of the Cape Winelands should I see? The answer here is all three of the classics. One coach, one guide, and stops in Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl, with fifteen tastings spread across three working estates.

The morning starts with pickup at a fixed City Sightseeing stop and an hour on the N1 out of the city. The first estate sets the tone: a cellar tour, a plate of cheese and snacks, and a seated tasting rather than a rushed counter pour. From there you walk the oak-lined centre of Stellenbosch, South Africa's second-oldest town and the home of the country's first wine route, before crossing the Helshoogte Pass into the Franschhoek valley.

The second tasting looks out over Franschhoek itself, and there is a photo stop at Drakenstein Prison — the gate Nelson Mandela walked out of in 1990 — on the way to Paarl. The final tasting leans sweet and dessert-style, taken under the trees. You are back in Cape Town in the early evening. Lunch is the one thing not included, so bring cash or a card for the estate restaurant.

Brahm was our guide and he did his best to cater for this big group of people. We had 45 people in this tour which was not what I expected. We used the hop on hop off bus as our transportation to the wine regions. The day was beautiful. The estates were all great and beautiful. Even though we were in a big group, time management was not so much of an issue thanks to the guide. I would recommend this tour nonetheless. But if you are looking for a smaller group, this isn’t for you.
