About This Experience

Gray Line's small-group winelands day is the one to book if the size of the group is what you care about. Four estates — Delaire Graff, Tokara, Delheim and Fairview — up to 20 wines, and the Fairview wine-and-cheese pairing, all in a vehicle small enough that you are not queuing behind forty people at the tasting counter.

The four estates are genuinely different from one another. Delaire Graff is the money shot: a modern gallery-and-restaurant estate on the Helshoogte Pass with a view down into the Stellenbosch valley. Tokara sits higher on the Simonsberg. Delheim is the old-guard Stellenbosch family estate. Fairview, over in Paarl, is where the cheese comes in.

Read the inclusions carefully, because they are more conditional than most. There are two package tiers, and on the classic package the tasting fees at the estates are paid directly at the wineries. Lunch is at your own cost in Stellenbosch or Franschhoek, and the operator caps the included allowance at R380 per person — anything above that you settle yourself. You must be 18 to drink, and there is some walking during the town section.

— Ana, January

Both Wilson and Eve were exceptionally helpful and incredibly knowledgeable throughout the entire experience. The tour was organised with impressive precision; we had clear timings to follow, yet it never felt rushed or pressured at any point. Their warm approach and professionalism made the day feel smooth, enjoyable and truly memorable. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to include fewer vineyards and spend more time at the standout estates, especially places like Delaire Graff. Having additional time there, and perhaps even adding a short tour of how their wine is made and the full production process, would elevate the experience even further. The quality of those top-tier vineyards truly deserves more time to appreciate.

Loved the trip, great guide and lovely scenery and wine tasting. Variety of wine yards, tasted some lovely wine and met some nice people

Frequently Asked Questions

How small is the group on this tour?

The operator markets it as a luxury small-group tour, and reviewers consistently describe a van-sized group rather than a coach. That is the main thing you are paying the premium for: four estates at a pace where you can actually talk to the person pouring.

Which four estates does it visit?

Delaire Graff and Tokara on the Helshoogte Pass and Simonsberg slopes, Delheim in Stellenbosch, and Fairview in Paarl for the wine-and-cheese pairing. Between them you taste up to 20 wines across the day.

Are the tasting fees really included?

It depends on the package tier you select. On the classic package, the tasting fees at the estates are payable directly at the wineries — read the option description at checkout carefully. The wine-and-cheese pairing at Fairview is the anchor inclusion either way.

What is the R380 lunch cap?

Lunch is at your own cost, but the operator allows up to R380 per person (roughly $22) at the chosen restaurant in Stellenbosch or Franschhoek. If your bill runs above that, you pay the difference directly. Starters, desserts and extra drinks sit outside it.
